Throwback Travel Pictures

Panoramic view from the apartment balcony

Thought I would add some random pictures from my travels round the world.

First up some low res (digital cameras were new and 1Mp was state of the art) pictures from Casablanca, Morocco. Nothing like living and working there for 8 months to dispel the romantic version one would imagine from watching the eponymous film. This would have been 1999 and I am sure it has changed enormously since then.

The Corniche. Lots of pubs, clubs and restaurants to spend some time in during the weekend

Sunday was the day to head to the park, meet friends, eat sunflower seeds, and chill

Looking towards the World Trade centre from the apartment. Pretty sure the name was changed a few years later

Mosque Mohammed V (one of the biggest in the world at the time)

Politics

Excellent article on why politics has become so polarized. Because the state has increased so much, there is so much more at stake

Instead what we have is a controlling Government and and an increasingly controlled society, one where everyone depends on the state in some way. In that society conflict is inevitable because everyone wants to achieve their goals through politics – but not everyone can be a winner. Only the retreat of the state and the restoration of a free society can reverse this trend.

From David Frost :Blame the big state for our polarisation crisis

Friday is Funday

Oktoberfest 2025 started last Saturday so here's a themed Friday post. The reason Oktoberfest starts in September is thanks to Julie and his calendar that required an adjustment of 10 days to be "removed" from October 1582 to bring Europe onto the Gregorian calendar. Of course, the Brits refused to accept this papish nonsense and waited another 200 years by which time they needed to remove 13 days.

As usual the soundtrack can be found here Sound Track

Groaners

Time for Thursday's collection of groaners. Admit it, one or two will raise a wry smile or a chuckle.
